Nachleben The feminist art historian Linda Nochlin referred to the relation of the Nachleben (afterlife) of antique images to contemporary feminist art. For these frieze type paintings I examined Greek mythology, Greek vases and friezes, Egyptian hieroglyphics (as logograms), western art and current media. I then used a combination of appropriated images from these sources to refer to the origins of women, goddesses of female jouissance as well as the grotesque presences of ancient folklore, the advent of feminism and the freedom women do not really possess but need to nurture.
