Visual Communications Design

Anywhere we see combinations of words, words and images, illustration and diagrams, we encounter graphic design at work; communicating across media - in print, on screen and in the environment. It is within this broad spectrum of opportunity that the students of the 2010 BA (Hons) in Visual Communication Design have cited their graduate projects.

Their work explores a wide range of engaging subjects including: Ethnography, The Science of Sleeping, Chicken Welfare, Navigating Dublin City, Migraines, Cultural Tourism and Watersports in Ireland. Through research and analysis of the communication challenges of their project, each student endeavours to create relevant and meaningful solutions; solutions that engage and respond to the current and future demands of this exciting discipline.

Unique at under-graduate level in Ireland, the course advocates and practices an interdisciplinary approach to design. Central to this is the integration of traditional and digital methods. This is reflected in a showcase that includes interactive design, web design, book design, wayfinding systems, corporate identity, editorial design, exhibition design and motion graphics.

Students of the programme have continued to receive national and international recognition for the standard of their academic and studio work. This is a testimony to their talents and passion for design, and to the quality of the teaching staff and visiting lecturers at IADT who are equally engaged with research and professional practice at the highest level.

The lecturers of the Visual Communications programme wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the students on their achievements and for their outstanding exhibition. We would also like to thank them for allowing us to share in their growth and emergence as young designers, they have engaged and challenged us at every opportunity. We wish them every success for the future.
