Modelmaking and Design
The model making programme offers a challenging, dynamic and wide ranging education through the art and craft of Model Making. We cover many aspects of this diverse field and graduates find employment in product prototyping/design, film and game production, street theatre design, museum/interactive display and digital effects.
The programme develops a sophisticated understanding of the art of the model maker through practical experience and is further informed by a critical understanding of the field and related creative areas. We provide our students with direct experience of the skills and techniques that they will need as professionals as well as helping to enhance their design skills and to fulfill their creative potential through speculative projects such as, stop motion animation, street theatre, production design and digital modelling.
Our students have performed with their costume designs at Government functions and annually in the St Patrick's Day Parade as well as internationally in the Chingay Parade in Singapore. This strong international and national connectivity has helped to support graduates in finding employment and further study opportunities worldwide. Students work across a remarkably wide range of tools, techniques and processes. Their practice is informed by a highly blended approach which enables digital and physical technologies to work together. In this sense our students are not only fully informed about current practice - but most importantly they are enabled to respond to the rapidly changing contexts and opportunities of the creative industries as they emerge. We pride ourselves on developing students that have a high level knowledge that will equip them for a long term career in the creative industries.
The model making course would like to thank our external assessor Mr. David Burrowes for his contribution to maintaining the quality of our programme. In addition we would like to thank all of our graduating students for their effort and wish them the best of luck with their final year work.
