Animation

"Animation is not imitating the surface of things, it's about understanding its expression"
Richard Williams

Early artists and documentarians in the pursuit and development of Animations earliest days such as Muybridge and Disney understood this. And today the students in the Animation programme at IADT stand in their long cast shadows or as Isacc Newton said "On their shoulders".

The Animation programme offers a unique learning experience that enables our students to explore and document the world and it's stories with a full complement of animation production processes and skills that puts us at the forefront of animation education delivery in this country. We offer the only undergraduate degree in Animation nationally and in doing so we honour and believe in creativity and innovation in this most adaptable and multifunctional discipline.

For our graduates, opportunities exist in the creative industries both nationally and internationally. These pathways include Feature Animations, Television production, TV Advertising, Special effects, Short films, and personal projects. Traditional as well as digital animators are increasingly in demand in the ever expanding world of Animation Production and our educational methods and value systems enable our graduates to be at the forefront of every level and niche of professional practice.

In their creative journeys this year's students explore concepts of social and cultural significance. Their films encompass everything from the comedic story of an unemployed cartoon monster to a dark retelling of a Brothers Grim tale and in doing so expanding the boundaries of animated storytelling and communication.

The lecturers in the Animation programme want to congratulate all our graduates in their honest creative efforts in making this year's exhibition so unique and memorable. It is their shoulders that our future graduates will stand on.

"The standard of the graduate work is remarkable" Rob Cullen, Founding Director, Boulder Animation
